The studentship will cover tuition fees to home/EU level, with the possibility of a standard living allowance (stipend) - currently £13,290 per annum for 2009/10 - becoming available. Overseas students are eligible to apply, but will be liable to pay the difference between home/EU and overseas fees. Note that fees are subject to change annually throughout the programme of study. Studentships are expected to start on 1st March 2010. The Centre for Emergent Computing undertakes research across a range of areas using techniques inspired by nature, for example Artificial Immune Systems, Evolutionary Computing, Ant Colony algorithms etc. The group works in a diverse range of domains, including optimisation (in particular in the area of eco-friendly optimisation, e.g to achieve carbon reductions), machine learning and in pervasive computing, e.g wireless sensor networks. We are also interested in modelling and the theoretical aspects of developing bio-inspired algorithms. Further details of the research areas and the research group's activities can be found at http://www.cec.soc.napier.ac.uk.
