General Information
The FRONTS 2nd Winter School took place in Braunschweig, on October 12-16, 2009
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology is becoming more and more mature. There is variety of hardware and software to choose from, and almost all of them are easy to set up and use. Still there is a major issue that has not been sufficiently addressed in the past. The sensor node brands are very different in their capabilities. Consequently, the software running on these systems is very different on the various nodes. Where algorithms are implemented, they are hard to share and compare, as implementations cannot be easily ported to new platforms.
Goals and Audience
The goal of the school was to introduce the Wiselib, our proposal to remedy this unfortunate situation. It is a generic algorithms library, written in C++, that runs on a number of sensor platforms and simulation frameworks. It provides simple interfaces to the algorithm developer, with a unified API and ready-to-use data structure implementations.
Registration
PerAda provided a number of travel grants to help cover accommodation costs in shared double rooms. Successful applicants were MSc or PhD students in a relevant area of the workshop.
Agenda
The Winter School lasted for 3 days and included the following topics:
- Wiselib programming, including routing algorithms, localization algorithms,
- Using the WiseML markup language for sensor network experiments, documentation, and validation.
- Using the FRONTS remote testbed to validate Wiselib algorithms.
