All Summer School participants will receive a WIFI guest account for use within the university buildings which will be valid for the week. Those staying at the Wrights Houses accommodation will also have Internet access. UK voltage for electricity supply is 240 Volts AC operating at 50Hz frequency (North America is 110-120v, and in most European countries it is 220-240v with attempts to standardise on 230v). The UK and Ireland use a different power plug and socket system to the rest of Europe, with plugs using 3 rectangular (not round) pins for live, neutral and earth cables. These are known as “TYPE G” plugs (officially BS 1363) and they are fused appropriately for different uses, but normally 13amp for normal domestic use. You can buy plug adapters at most airports and usually at larger stores/supermarkets. Most wall sockets have a switch to turn on and off for safety. (more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BS_1363) Please note that equipment bought in from outside Europe MAY need a voltage converter as well as a plug adapter. Your equipment probably came with an international cable, but please check carefully to avoid equipment damage!
